Keisha Birdine
Graduate Mental Health Practitioner
I have 10 years of experience working in health and social care. I have always had an interest in improving the lives of others ever since working in community care as a Support Worker. I worked with a range of people who had different physical and mental health needs, including adults with learning disabilities and dementia.
I went on to do a Psychology with Cognitive Science degree at University of Sussex. During this time I developed a particular interest in the effects of social isolation and loneliness on people’s mental health. During this time I joined the Loneliness Campaign which I continue to support today.
After graduating, I worked for a Clinical Commissioning Group for a number of years providing project support for a number programmes including: Mental Health, Dementia and Patient Transport Service. I also had the opportunity to work for a period of time with a Sussex based dementia charity called Know Dementia. I then worked as a Proactive Care Coordinator in West Sussex and an Elderberry Support Worker with Age UK.
I have more recently trained as a Graduate Mental Health Practitioner at University of Sussex. During my training I was on placement at a West Sussex based Mental Health Assessment Treatment Service and an East Sussex GP surgery for homeless people and those living in temporary accommodation. I have also undertaken training for Counselling Skills levels 2 & 3.
